COUNTY VETERANS SERVICE OFFICER/Emergency Manager
Duties: Under the direction of the Cuming County Veterans Service Committee, the Veterans Service Officer counsels and advises veterans and dependents on available benefits to veterans. The County Veterans Service Committee shall appoint, subject to confirmation by the County Board, according to section 80-410. The Veterans Service Officer is also responsible to administer the County General Assistance Program.
The County Emergency Manager reports to the County Board of Supervisors. The Emergency Manager shall direct the emergency management organization and is the principal advisor to the County Board and other political subdivisions in disaster matters. Qualifications: Must have served on active duty in the armed forces of the United States, other than active duty for training, shall have been discharged or otherwise separated with a characterization of honorable from the service, and shall have been a bona fide resident of the State of Nebraska for at least one year immediately prior to assuming any such position. Prefer experience in public relations and strategic planning.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office programs and the internet; experience with GIS programming and mapping helpful; excellent communication skills, time management skills and ability to work with a diverse population. Possess the ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and the ability to travel with an occasional overnight stay.
Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience will be considered along with residency within the State of Nebraska.
Position: Full-time, hourly. Compensation negotiable, based on experience and skills. County benefit package provided.
